Welcome to a new Hunter experience
Hunters judged on skill, not status
Smoothness, rhythm, balance, and correct riding are the foundation of every UDJC hunter class. Courses are designed to reward effective riding, thoughtful track execution, and real horsemanship — not trends, flash, or fashion.
Riders experience hunter competition the way it was meant to be: fair, skill-based, and accessible.
Feedback from the Judge
Yes, every rider receives judge feedback after each round, including what went well, what could be improved, and tips to help you ride better next time — making every class a learning opportunity.
Say goodbye to the same old courses!
UDJC Hunters start at 2’6” and are designed to be far more technical, with a derby-inspired layout that challenges track, rhythm, and rideability. Each division includes two Handy rounds for added complexity and fun.
UDJC Hunters: Built on a foundation of correct riding
Our Hunter divisions start at 2’6” and are intentionally designed as the next step for riders who’ve built strong fundamentals through dressage and style jumping. We focus on correct riding first — ensuring riders have the balance, rhythm, and control needed before taking on our more technical, derby-style hunter courses. This progression creates confident, capable riders who are truly ready to shine in the hunter ring and move up with purpose

Pony Hunters starting at 2'3"
Pony Hunter classes start at 2’3” and are open to riders aged 16 and under on ponies measuring 1.48m or smaller. Courses are derby-inspired, with bending lines, rollbacks, and related distances that challenge balance and track. Success in these classes requires a solid foundation in both dressage and style jumping, encouraging correct riding from the start.

Judging Criteria
Hunter Over-Fence and Handy rounds at UDJC are judged on a 100-point system, with up to 30 points for Rider’s Seat and Aids, 30 for Rhythm and Balance, 20 for Track and Planning, and 20 for the Horse’s Jumping Quality. Judging is fair, consistent, and fully transparent — and after every round, riders receive real-time feedback from the judge over the microphone. Success isn’t about having the fanciest horse — it’s about correct riding, thoughtful planning, and effective communication with your partner.
